Pregnancy

Weeks 12 - 35

Pelvic physiotherapy can address a number of symptoms you may be experiencing during pregnancy

  • Leakage

  • Pelvic Pain

  • Painful Sex

  • Pregnancy Safe Exercise Guidance

We can work with you from the beginning of your pregnancy, however we will not complete a pelvic exam to assess the pelvic floor muscles until your second trimester. Managing symptoms during pregnancy can help to reduce their persistence in the postpartum period.

Labour Preparation

Week 36 +

We can work together to help prepare you for labour and delivery, whatever that may look like for your. Vaginal delivery or C-section we will review strategies for preparing for delivery and the early postpartum period. This may include

  • Pelvic floor exercises for labour (not kegels!)

  • Positions and strategies for pushing

  • Early postpartum exercise (Vaginal or Caesarian section delivery)

Postpartum

6 Weeks + Postpartum

Typically we see you after you have been discharged by your care provider and cleared for intercourse, allowing us to assess the pelvic floor muscles as needed. Pregnancy, labour and delivery have a huge impact on your pelvic floor, pelvis and abdomen and we recommend everyone have a pelvic floor check up postpartum. If you are experiencing any of the following a pelvic physiotherapy appointment may be right for you.

  • Urinary or fecal leakage

  • Urinary or fecal urgency

  • Pelvic pressure (prolapse)

  • Pain with intercourse

  • Diastasis rectus abdominus (Abdominal separation)

  • Pelvic, hip or low back pain
